Recurring inner dialogue

Little voice in head 1: I should meditate when I get up in the morning.
Little voice in head 2: I can’t be bothered.
Little voice in head 1: *guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt*
Little voice in head 2: Ahhh, you’re feeling guilty. That’s interesting.
Little voice in head 1: Bugger off.
Little voice in head 2: Perhaps you should learn to be more compassionate towards yourself.
Little voice in head 1: How should I do that?
Little voice in head 2: Perhaps a loving-kindness meditation.
Little voice in head 1: But I can’t be bothered to meditate.
Little voice in head 2: Oh, shut up.

  1. One trick that has been useful for me. Choose a minimum period of meditation to do right after waking up. A time that you're sure you won't have a problem to find. It can be only 5 minutes. Yes 5 minutes! But it should be a formal practice with a timer and in your formal meditation posture. Each time you really don't feel like meditating, do that minimum period. If you feel shit and without motivation, feel that shit state for 5 minutes, it's only 5 minutes after all… This way you don't have to feel guilty as you did the minimum you agreed with and you get the 5 minute meditation experience that is actually more important than one would think. The other days you have more energy and drive you can always extend that time to the ideal meditation period you'd prefer to have, 30 min, 60 min,…
